Countertop Materials
GRANITE
Natural, heat resistant, scratch resistant, porous. Once a year you have to reseal it. Granite used outdoors can fade. Comes in different finishes; polished, leathered, or honed (unfinished). If damaged can be buffed out or re-polished.
QUARTZ
Also known as an engineered stone. Typically, polished, scratch and heat resistant, non-porous, harsh chemicals can damage it. Recommended for areas that get a lot of wear and tear. Not for outdoor use.
DEKTON
Is a very durable compact product for indoor or outdoor consisting of quartz, glass, and porcelain.
MARBLE
More prone to damage, very delicate. Nicks and scratches can be buffed out. Must be sealed periodically to prevent stains.
BUTCHER BLOCK
Butcher Block Countertops are often used for their natural beauty and warmth. They require a little more maintenance with oiling and refinishing, and are most certainly a commitment.
QUARTZITE
Sandstone that’s empty spaces are filled with quartz and then is fused together by heat and pressure. Like granite and very durable but requires sealing and will also absorb stains. Most commonly light in color and similar looking to marble.
